BREAKING: Verdict Announced In The Wisconsin Apple River Stabbing Trial
The trial has ended and the verdict has been announced in the trial involving a deadly confrontation between 54-year-old Nicolae Miu and a group of young adults on the Apple River in Wisconsin.
Recap Of The July 30, 2022 Incident
According to the timeline, Nicolae Miu and his wife Sondra went to the Apple River to meet friends and float down the river. According to what Sondra would later tell police, a member of their group lost their cell phone on the river and Nicolae left the group to try to find it using "scuba gear".
At 3:44 p.m., Miu is carrying goggles with a snorkel attached when he approaches a younger group tubing down the river. The tubers tell Miu to "Get away."
Things Turn Violent And Then Deadly
The group then accuses Miu of "looking for little girls", which draws a larger group to the scene, escalating the situation as multiple people begin yelling at Miu and at least one person touches his shoulder.
As the encounter escalated, there were reports that he punched a female on the left side of her face before Miu was punched, and then the stabbings took place.
Witnesses began calling 911 at 3:47 p.m. and when authorities arrived they found a 24-year-old woman from Burnsville, Minnesota, a 20-year-old and 22-year-old man from Luck, Wisconsin, and a 22-year-old man from Elk River, Minnesota had been injured in the attack.

The Trial Begins On Monday, April 1
The trial began on Monday, April 1 with the prosecution stating its case for murder and other charges related to the confrontation. The defense would counter Miu acted in self-defense, adding that he was "so fearful" for his safety that he wasn't sure what the people in the river would do to him.
The Trial Ends On April 10 & The Verdict Is Announced On April 11
The trial included 7 days of testimony that included more than 40 witnesses, with Miu himself taking that stand. The verdict was put in the jury's hands on April 10 and after deliberation, which included re-watching parts of the video that showed the attack, the jury reached a verdict.
The verdict was announced on April 11 and according to multiple sources, including FOX 9, Nicolae Miu was found guilty on six charges, including first-degree reckless homicide in the killing of 17-year-old Isaac Schuman.
The jury has convicted Nicolae Miu of the following 6 charges:
- First-degree reckless homicide of Isaac Schuman
- First-degree recklessly endangering the safety of A.J. Martin
- First-degree recklessly endangering the safety of Dante Carlson
- First-degree recklessly endangering the safety of Tony Carlson
- First-degree recklessly endangering the safety of Ryhley Mattison
- The battery of Madison Coen
Miu will next face sentencing for the guilty verdicts, with a maximum possible sentence of life in prison for the death of Isaac Schuman.
