The continued revitalization of Rockford's South Main corridor appears to be taking another step.

ROCKFORD'S CONTINUED FACELIFT

Urban Equity, the same group that is currently working on condos and other business developments throughout Rockford including a spot at 300 South Main, is setting its sights just down the block.

In March the announcement was made. Urban Equity bought the building at 700 South Main and they're turning it into a living space.

UNLIMITED (WATER) POWER!

Calling it the Water Power Lofts, Urban Equity Properties on Facebook says the "building has easy access to the Chicago Rockford International Airport, as well as Rockford’s downtown entertainment district and Restaurant Row."

I have been driving past this building for years now and I got to tell ya, I'm glad to see it getting turned into something.

HOW FAR SOUTH ON MAIN WILL THE FACELIFT GO?

Starting with the Main Street District and moving south you can see this part of town has been rapidly changing in the past decade or so.

The addition of the hotel and now the new construction on South Main is going to continue to give Rockford a downtown the glow up many residents have been asking about for years.

Fixing South Main Street itself was a huge step itself. Remember driving that thing in the early 2000s? It was not nearly as comfortable as it is today.

As far as the new lofts, Urban Equity's Facebook points toward construction beginning later this year.

However, I just recently noticed Urban Equity has a semi-trailer parked in the lot of their new building, along with a very small building that would be perfect for a construction foreman.

Who knows, maybe this loft project gets off the ground this summer. If so, there's a chance it could beat the expected completion date of 2023.
