Since January 1, 2020 we've learned one thing for sure; Illinoisans like to smoke pot legally and are spending a LOT of cash on it. If you've got some money set aside that you've been looking for the right to invest it in, perhaps cannabis growing is it?

Mystateline.com reports that the state of Illinois will begin accepting applications from people interested in becoming marijuana infusers, transporters, or growers for the state. Anyone can apply, but there are a few important points you need to be aware of before you do:

  1. There is a non-refundable application fee of $5,000. (Social Equity Applicants may be eligible for a fee waiver if they meet certain income and ownership limits)
  2. Selected growers will pay an annual licensing fee of $40,000, a Transporter will pay an annual license fee of $10,000 and an Infuser will pay an annual licensing fee of $5,000.
  3. The Illinois Department of Agriculture will begin accepting applications on February 14, 2020, and all completed applications must be received by March 16, 2020 by 5 p.m.
