Illinois Teacher Triumphs in Getting Students (and Parents) to Love Math
Math was not my strongest subject. I'm not alone, I know. That doesn't make us good homework helpers. Our kids are blessed to have teachers like this.
Our lives are filled with thousands of concepts, some are very easy to understand, some are not. High School mathematics is where many of us first realized that graduating may be tougher than we thought. For those who struggled in math, the idea of now trying to help our kids do well in this subject really brings on the anxiety.
When that 'bright light' started to dim and one of those concepts seemed out of reach, there was always one of those teachers that went way above and beyond to help you get that 'wattage' back.
Math students at Winnebago High School find that 'light' in their teacher, Mrs. Erb
Congratulations to Janet Erb, she is 97ZOK's new Teacher Of The Week.
Mrs. Erb was nominated for this honor by Sarah Woodman, the mother of one of her students and a fellow teacher. In her nomination letter, she wrote about those moments that help set up parents and students for success. Sarah writes,
Mrs. Erb really cares about her students. She goes above and beyond to make sure they understand and enjoy math. She gives up her planning period almost every day to help my son and answer questions he has on problems. She is encouraging and makes him want to learn the concepts. She provides videos on concepts for students to watch to better their understanding, and that is also very helpful to the parents. As a teacher in another district, I know how hard it is to keep kids on track and engaged, especially when they are out sick. She continues to reach out and work hard to make sure my son is successful. We really appreciate how she goes above and beyond. She shares her love and knowledge of mathematics with students and I can tell by how well and hard my son is working in her class. Thank you Mrs. Erb
As a parent of four, I can feel that appreciation. Thank you and congratulations, Janet Erb!
