Best Diners Drive-Ins and Dives Restaurant in Illinois

Who doesn't get excited to try out a restaurant that's been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?

Guy Fieri's uber-popular food show has been on the Food Network for an absurd 37 seasons. Throughout the run of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Fieri has visited 40 different Illinois restaurants.

While the show doesn't appear to be giving off any signs of slowing down, the same can be said for what has been named the best Illinois restaurant featured on the long-running show.

Any time Fieri visits a restaurant, the word is producers notify the restaurant owners to prepare themselves for an influx of new customers.

Some of those restaurants don't heed that advice and can't hold up with demand and ultimately end up shuttering from the pressure of the TV appearance.

Then there are restaurants that have already had a long and storied history, one that regardless of national TV recognition will be around for years to come.

So when I saw Delish's article featuring The Best "Diners, Drive-Ins And Dives" Restaurants In Every State, I wasn't surprised by their choice for Illinois.

While many people associate Chicago with deep dish pizza, Vito and Nick's Pizzeria has been making the case for thin crust since 1946. Using a family recipe for the dough, the pizzas have a cracker-crisp consistency that keeps people coming back—especially for popular pies like the Italian beef pizza.

Going strong for over 75 years, Vito and Nick's is a destination for tourists, Illinois residents looking for great pizza, and folks who live in the neighborhood just trying to pick up dinner for the night.

Vito and Nick's is rated a 4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor. Traderjoey says "The tavern style, thin crust pizza, was absolutely outstanding."

However, endoedibles says Vito and Nick's is "Good, but not legendary by any stretch."
