IL Accident Survivor To Host Blood Drives To Thank Community
The survivor of a horrible motorcycle accident would like to thank the Rockford community for their support by hosting local blood drives next week.
The Main Reason For Donating Blood
I've been lucky enough to be able to work with the Rock River Valley Blood Center for years. One of the many things I've learned from them in that time is you or someone you know will need a blood transfusion sometime in your life. For me, the answer is "yes" to both. Donating truly does save lives.
Donating Blood Saved Illinois Man's Life
November 7th is the second anniversary of Tim Shaw's motorcycle accident. On that morning, he was riding his bike to work like usual. A deer came out of nowhere and smashed into him. He was severely injured in the collision. The buck's antlers caused serious damage to his body. He needed blood and lots of it.
Tim was in a coma for 31 days and doctors estimate he lost 80 percent of his blood volume.
He used 11 units during his stay at the hospital in Rockford and once transferred to Madison2, he required several more blood transfusions throughout his recovery.
Illinois Motorcycle Accident Survivor To Host Blood Drives
Mr. Shaw and his family are very thankful for the community support along with the assistance of the Rock River Valley Blood Center. They would like to "pay it forward" and host a series of blood drives in the Rockford area to help save more lives.
Next week (November 7th through 12th), the Shaw family and the Rock River Valley Blood Center are giving residents the opportunity to win a $200 Amazon gift card. Just make a donation at one of the RRVBC locations. Their goal is 100 donors. That would equal the amount of blood Tim required after his accident.
