It's "815 Week" and as we're getting ready to celebrate "815 Day," I had a friend ask me, "Why does Rockford celebrate 815 Day?" He wasn't being nasty about it. The guy was actually curious and didn't quite get it. After I thought about it, I decided that's a really good question.

I don't know the "official" reasoning behind "815 Day" but I have my ideas. I believe that special day gives Rockford a chance to showcase itself. It shows people that our city is a nice place with many great things.

Just like a five-year-old, he just kept asking me "why." Besides getting really annoying, it made me think. What is so good about Rockford? So, I sat down and came up with a list of reasons why our city is the best in Illinois.

# 3 Food: Rockford is full of amazing local restaurants. The range goes from fast food, all the way up to fine dining and everything in between.

# 4 People: The residents really make a town and we've got a city full of good ones. When someone needs assistance, the others are there to help them out.

# 5 Affordable: Try going to other cities across Illinois and see what the cost of living is. It will blow your mind. It's so much more affordable to live here.
