Video of Gregg Allman Biopic Tragedy Surfaces
Shocking new video reveals the final desperate moments as actors and film crew on the set of the Gregg Allman biopic ran for their lives as a train approached. Camera assistant Sarah Elizabeth Jones was unable to clear the tracks in time and was killed.
Her death led to a guilty plea of involuntary manslaughter by Randall Miller, the director of Midnight Rider, earlier this week. He will serve two years in prison. Prosecutors say he never received permission from CSX Transportation to film on the trestle, which spans the Altamaha River in rural Georgia. Six others were injured in the accident, which took place in February 2014.
In one of the Daily Mail videos, the film group -- including actors Wyatt Russell and William Hurt, who were filming a dream sequence -- attempted to gather their props and flee. They have difficulty managing a bed that's been placed on the trestle for the scene. Russell, the son of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, can be seen rushing away with a guitar on his back.
An even more terrifying clip, also from the Daily Mail and seen below, shows the accident from the point of view of the oncoming train as everyone desperately scrambles to safety. The 27-year-old Jones was still on the tracks as the train rushes past at 55 miles per hour.
Jay Sedrish, the film's executive producer, received 10 years probation for his part in the case. Hillary Schwartz, an assistant director, was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing and received 10 years probation too. Charges against Savin's business partner and wife Jody were dropped as a contingency of his plea.
