We've all tried to throw something and been disappointed by the distance it flew. This guy's throw was so bad he went to jail for it.

The police in Port St. Lucie pulled over a 61-year-old man named Derry West for not having a light for his license plate. He had some stuff on him he wasn't supposed to, so he decided to get rid of it by throwing it out the passenger window, like anybody would. Little did West know, there were two officers walking up to his car, one on the driver's side, one on the passenger side.

The officer explains in the report, "The airborne object struck me in the face and fell to the ground. I then observed the object to be a small crack pipe.”

When they asked him about it, West said that the pipe belonged to a friend.

He was charged with Attempted Tampering with Evidence and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

This isn't the first time Derry's been in trouble for trying to get rid of a crack pipe. One other time he was arrested, a pipe fell from his pants while they were processed, and broke. He then went on to smash it as much as he could.

Some of his previous charges include:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Trafficking in Stolen Property
  • Grand Theft
  • Burglary
  • Evidence Tampering
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Violation of a Domestic Violence Protection Order
