When it comes to underage drinking, every campus is a little bit different. It starts with the bars. In some college towns, you can get into bars when you're not old enough. Some let 18-year-olds in, while others are strictly 21 or older.
Despite bar rules that let underage students in, the law says you can't drink until you're 21. The university police are always on the lookout for fake IDs. They'll set up stings to enter taverns to bust the kids boozing.

Recently, Madison police entered a bar near the University of Wisconsin campus. During this sting, the cops confiscated over 100 fake IDs, gave out several tickets, and even made a handful of arrests.

MPD officer Anthony Vogel said the department will conduct a more targeted approach, as well as do compliance checks for underage drinkers and overcrowding.
Vogel said if the police department receives any specific complaints related to underage drinkers at a bar, police will look into doing a bar check.
