Well here is something you don't hear everyday.

Imagine driving down West State Street. There you are sitting at a traffic light, talking on the phone with your bestie (hands free of course) and you scream at the top of your lungs, "Oh Lordy there is an emu next to my car!"

I'm sure whomever you would be talking with on the phone wouldn't believe you. They would think you were crazy. You would have to pull off the road and try to get a picture before being attacked by the crazy ostrich looking bird. The emu would probably run away, or pluck your eyes out before you could get a picture. Then your friends would know you as the liar who claimed there was an emu running down West State Street.

For the record I've never seen an emu. I don't know if they attack or pluck out people's eyes, but I do know I don't want to have an impromptu run in with one. So stop before you comment that I know nothing about gentle emus, because you are correct, I know nothing about emus.

Well, Winnebago County Sheriff's Department had a police chase with an emu this weekend. It happened in real life according to WIFR. They said:

The Sheriff's Department said the bird escaped from it's pen on West State Street on Wednesday. Someone spotted it Saturday near West State Street and Meridian.

It took deputies and animal service workers about two and a half hours to capture the emu.

How did they actually catch the emu? I couldn't imagine lassoing it. I mean, it's got a huge skinny neck! I don't know how they did it, but I'm glad Emu is safe and home.
