Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is spreading like wildfire and it appears to be only a matter of time before it reaches the Forest City.

In states as close as Indiana, Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) cases are running rampant.

CBS 2 in Chicago says HFMD cases have also increased in South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Don't think HFMD is just for kids either. Adults have been catching the disease too. Just today, J.A. Happ, a pitcher with the New York Yankees was diagnosed with HFMD.

Here's the scary part that I didn't know about HFMD, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says some health complications can arise although they aren't entirely common.

They list meningitis, encephalitis, along with fingernail and toenail loss as some possible symptoms.

Of course, the best way to battle HFMD is to wash your hands. Be sure to keep your hands clean, certainly after being around kids.
