Do You Own One Of Illinois’ Most Stolen Vehicles?

Move over Honda Civic, there's a brand new most frequently stolen vehicle in America.

Just last year, thieves were stealing the Civic enough to make it the most stolen but now a full-size Ford Pick-Up takes the crown, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau's (NICB) "Hot Wheels" report.

While the Honda Civic and Ford Pick-Up are the most stolen in the United States, the list in Illinois is a little bit different.

The 2008 Chevrolet Impala is most frequently taken, followed by the Chevrolet Malibu, and the Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee landed in the third spot.

The Ford Pick-Up was 5th with the Honda Civic coming in 8th place in Illinois.

Having a vehicle stolen has to be one of the world's worst feelings. The helplessness and fear that immediately come with any type of thievery along with the thought your very own privacy was invaded, is just horrible.

Thankfully, the NICB outlined a couple of recommendations to ensure that your vehicle remains safe and secure.

1. Common Sense - Don't leave your keys in the car, lock your doors, park in well-lit areas.
2. Warning Device - Audible alarms, brake, and wheel locks let thieves know your vehicle is protected.
3. Immobilizing Device - Smart keys, and kill switches are a few examples of devices that further prevent vehicle theft.
4. Tracking Device - Adds a final layer sending a signal to the police or monitoring station in case the vehicle is stolen.
