Today I am in awe of a woman I have never met, and her name is Becki Keltner.

She is currently enduring the worst pain imaginable, and trying to keep the pieces together for her family after her worst nightmare became a reality.

I can only imagine the tears that were pouring from her eyes as she wrote this letter about her husband, slain McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Keltner, and the amount of courage it took to share it with the world.

Becki Keltner, I don't know if you will ever read this, and I know the words "I am so very sorry for your loss"  probably do nothing to dull the grief you are going through, but please know I mean them from the very core of my being.

I have never doubted that your husband was an exceptional man, but thank you for letting us know just how extraordinary he really was.

I also want to thank you for taking time in the midst of your grief to share a message that this entire world needs to hear right now..."No matter who you are, every person has a story and people who love them. Every person has hopes and dreams. We need to accept and thrive on our differences."

Your husband was a hero, Mrs. Keltner, and so are you.
