Can You Spell Illinois’ Most Commonly Misspelled Word?
As someone who writes everyday and obviously has access to spellcheck and auto correct, you'd think that I'd have no trouble with spelling; well, I do.
No amount of English classes and spelling bees will ever help me spell "guarantee" the right way; the first time. In fact, I'm a little O.C.D. when it comes to that little red squiggly line that appears under a misspelled word. (If only I could demonstrate how many times it appeared under "guarantee" just one sentence ago; is it g-a-u or g-u-a? Oh it's an "a" that comes after "r?" Gets me every time.)
If you just said "same," then you can take some comfort in knowing that we're not the only ones who can't spell certain words.
Thrillist shared this Google trends map showing the most commonly misspelled words in each state and Illinois' is "appreciate."
If you're having a hard time reading the map, just click on it or I've put some of the most notable (just spelled that incorrectly by the way; there's no "e" in there.)
- Wisconsin: Wisconsin. Yes, they can't spell the name of their own state.
- Iowa: vacuum
- Minnesota: beautiful
- Indiana: hallelujah
- Mississippi: nanny
