I've been driving all over Illinois for many years and by far, Rockford is home to the worst drivers in the state.

You know those signs when you drive into a town that reads this city is home to this celebrity? Well, for Rockford it should say, Rockford is home to the worst drivers in Illinois. If you spend any time driving through the Forest City, you know it's true.

I know many people from Rockford would disagree and say that it's Chicago but I'm sorry, they're wrong. I grew up in the suburbs. I learned to drive on the I-290. The folks behind the wheel in that area aren't bad, they're just crazy. There's a difference. I lived in central Illinois for a few years and those drivers are just slow moving.

So, here's the perfect example of why I think Rockford drivers are so bad. Last night I was driving south on Alpine. As I was approaching East State, a guy in the left-hand turn lane went right. This is no joke. He cut off someone in the left lane and made me slam on my breaks in the right lane because he almost ran me off the road.

When I honked my horn at him, the guy gave me the finger. Come on dude, you were in the wrong. At least give me the I'm sorry wave. This is just one incident. They happen on a daily basis and usually even stupider moves.

Rockford drivers are so bad, that I believe that there should be a mandatory refresher course on behind the wheel and the written test because many of the residents have no idea about the rules of the road.

It's gotten so bad here that being a defensive driver is a must otherwise you're going to end up in an accident with one of these idiots. You know they've got crappy insurance so you'll get screwed on the deal. Good luck next time you're hitting the streets and let's be careful out there.
