Wisconsin Police Officer Charged with OWI with a Child in Her Car

When you live in an area like we do, so close to the Illinois/Wisconsin state line, it's not out of the ordinary to see stories out of Wisconsin regarding repeat OWI offenders.

It's no secret that when it comes to drinking and driving, the laws are a little more lenient in Packer territory. It's downright astonishing to see stories of men and women who've been arrested after getting their 8th OWI and still have a driver's license.

That's their culture though, at least that's what experts say. That shouldn't make it acceptable, especially if you're a police officer.

According to WISC-TV, Kelly Ann Hoeft, a Madison police officer, remains on patrol after being charged with an OWI and having a 5-year-old child in the backseat.

Despite being a safety officer who teaches kids about safety behaviors, Hoeft blew over twice the legal limit with a BAC of .27; and during her conversation with police, she told them that she had definitely been drinking.

What's even more shocking, is that she's still on patrol, with the police chief saying that an officer's employment status while cases like this progress are handled on a case-by-case basis and that Hoeft deeply regrets the incident.

Hoeft is due in court on September 26th and faces up to 6 months in jail if convicted.
