Ashmore Estates is One of The Most Haunted Places in Illinois

There's a building in Ashmore, Illinois that once was a mental hospital, but now it's used only for paranormal tours... Yikes.

Located about three-and-a-half hours south of Rockford, the Ashmore Estates once was a mental hospital that has quite a scary history. Probably too far away for a day trip, but I bet you could find a creepy B&B somewhere in between here and there.

Two of the more famous stories include a little girl named Elva that died from a fire and Joe who was hit by a train. Visiting one of the most haunted places in the state is worth the drive if you're into the paranormal. You could even encounter a ghost or two.
