This November Illinoisans will get to vote yes or no on the legalization marijuana.

Should Illinois pass this, be aware, there could be a bit of a problem for people who intend to purchase guns in the future.

People who currently have medical marijuana cards cannot purchase guns.

According to Fortune.com, if you have a medical marijuana card you will not be able to buy a gun. The federal court says this is a "No, No".

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals "ruled 3-0 on Wednesday (3/21) that a ban preventing medical marijuana card holders from purchasing firearms is not in violation of the Second Amendment."

Even though legalizing cannabis is done by a state-by-state basis, under federal law it is illegal. "The court maintained that drug use 'raises the risk of irrational or unpredictable behavior with which gun use should not be associated'.”

Those that oppose this ruling argue “that they shouldn’t be lumped with other drug users in terms of concerns about violence.”

Could this open the door for future laws that would restrict those who obtained marijuana legally from purchasing guns? Or even mandatory drug tests for gun owners?

It looks like there may more legal actions to come if this ruling sets a new precedent.
