Back in 2012, a missing persons story dominated the local news.

In October of 2012, Katrina Smith went missing in Machesney Park and local community members and law enforcement gathered to help find her. The story unfolded in front of our eyes and ears on local newscasts, and social media. The national new quickly grabbed onto this, as our local communities nervously waited for answers.

Eventually her husband Todd Smith was taken into custody and is sentenced to 59 years behind bars for Katrina's death.

The story is now being told my Dateline news anchor Chris Hansen on a program called, "Crime Watch Daily".
