The Average Bag Of Chips Is Over 40% Air

When talking about a bag of chips, there seems to be a lot of hot air in them.

Last week, I went to the grocery store with my family.

I grab a bag of chips and I joked that the company forgot to fill the bag.

I wasn't that far from the truth.

According to mystateline.com,

"A new study has shown that 43% of the volume of an average bag of potato chips is air."

Well, they actually mean nitrogen because oxygen will make the chips go bad. Hence, the need for chip clips.

The companies claim they put the "air" in the bags of chips to give them a cushion to prevent breaking.

Here are a few types of chips and how much air each contains.

• Cheetos - 59%
• Ruffles - 50%
• Doritos - 48%
• Lay's - 41%
• Pringles - 28%
• Fritos - 19%

I guess next time I'll just have to buy two bags.
