The loss of 3-year-old bottle-nose dolphin, Maxine, has the Brookfield Zoo in mourning.

The diagnostic results state that she died from an acute bacterial infection that quickly led to organ failure.

Senior Vice President Animal Programs, Chicago Zoological Society Bill Zeigler told ABC7 Chicago:

"Maxine's death has been devastating to all of the Chicago Zoological Society family and she will be greatly missed,"

According to zoo officials, Maxine's health was an isolated incident and poses no threat to the other dolphins at Brookfield Zoo.
