Heavy marijuana users can be stricken with mysterious illness.

One of the political battles going on in our country right now is should marijuana be legalized and if so, to what extent.

Any new scientific discoveries can push people on the fence either way.

This is an interesting possible side effect I just read about.

"A mysterious syndrome in which marijuana users become violently ill is worrying researchers."

What is this sickness called?

"Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, or CHS, appears to occur in people who use marijuana frequently for years."

What are the symptoms?

"Feeling nauseous and like the room is spinning, which is followed by violent vomiting and severe stomach pains."

How is it treated?

"Aside from quitting marijuana, there are no known treatments."

So far, it looks like little is known about this syndrome and more research is needed. Most doctors and patients don't even know that the illness is related to marijuana.

A survey found that one-third of individuals tested could be considered having experienced symptoms of CHS.

The article concludes by saying...

"This doesn't mean marijuana is bad or good it just means it has side effects, side effects that we need to understand and learn how to avoid and treat."

Sounds like to me that someone smoked themselves silly and can't handle the good stuff.
