The City of Rockford has declared a "snow emergency" for Jan. 31 through Feb. 2 in anticipation of a winter storm headed into the area.

The city's public works department announced the snow emergency on Friday afternoon. The emergency goes into effect 8 p.m. Jan. 31.

During this time, an odd/even parking ordinance will be enforced in Rockford. Vehicles should be parked on the odd address side of the street on odd numbered days and on the even address side of the street on even days.

The National Weather Service is predicting 2-4 inches of snow Saturday night with a 90 percent of additional snow on Sunday.

A winter storm watch also is in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday night for an area that includes Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee and DeKalb counties.
