Not even dark clouds and rain could hold back a large group of dogs and their owners this past Saturday.

The day started Saturday with rain, and it stuck around off and on. As I arrived in The Eagle van in downtown Rockton I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of people and dogs already there.

The 4th Annual Mellany's Dog Walk in downtown Rockton benefits dog therapy at Rockford Memorial Hospital in the name of Mellany McDuffa. Mellany was a long-time employee of the hospital.  After her death from ovarian cancer in 2012, a memorial fund was established in her name to fund the pet therapy program.

The support for this event in a town the size of Rockton was amazing. At 11 am we started the one mile walk around town. There were large dogs, small dogs, a 13 year old dog in a shopping cart.

Post walk there was "disco themed" dance party with the dogs. Yes, the dogs were dancing.

Thank you once again for having 96.7 The Eagle out as part of this incredible event.
