Rockford Police Department have three drones, that were donated by Illinois Drone-One, Inc., that will now be used to fly over crime scenes. These would be used at major crashes and search areas to help officers.

Rockford Police have trained eight members of the department to give aerial views to investigators, as well as giving a birds eye view on active scenes. All eight officers have gone through a training course administered by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The drones will help investigators clean up scenes quicker by not having to close roads for long periods of time during an investigation.

Rockford Police Assistant Deputy Chief John Pozzi told wifr.com the the drones will:

Will reduce manpower costs but also frees up personnel to get back out and in service quickly and continue to provide the necessary services to the community,"

Pozzi also said that in the future more officers could be trained on how to use the drones.
