The challenge has been set for the next 6 weeks for all 815ers to read and their reason could have a great impact on the community.

City and county leaders, including Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara, have collaborated to challenge both kids and adults to read one book a week until the beginning of school. The first bell for RPS 205's upcoming school year rings on August 20 so (as of this writing) that's forty days or six books. The goal of the campaign is the overall effect on the community, impacting the quality of life and attracting business, according to Eyewitness News.

Part of the Read 815 campaign involves read to or with children at libraries and community centers around the area. Volunteer information can be found here.

Readers also have a chance to win prizes through social media by using the hashtags #Read815, #BookAWeek, and #ReadingSelfie. Organizers are also encouraging you to take your friends to challenge them as well.

Follow Read 815 on Instagram for best-in-category reading selfie contests, prize announcements, celebrity appearances, and more! To qualify, posts must include campaign hashtags, or maintain a reading log (use the Read 815 Book-a-Week Challenge log, your own reading journal, or any reading program chart.) There are many reading programs available throughout the region for both children and adults.
