The team didn't win the game on Pucks and Paws Night, but the fans still left with big smiles on their faces because of the annual Weiner Dog Race.

The best thing about minor league sports that it's more than just a game. It's about the whole "show" for the entire family.

The Rockford IceHogs do a great job putting together big events for home games, but they really outdid themselves this time.

Last Friday night was "Pucks and Paws Night." There were a bunch of dog-related activities and vendors for canine owners set up all over the BMO Harris Bank Center. Fans were also allowed to bring their pets as guests to the game.

The highlight of the themed night was the "2nd Annual Weiner Dog Race." You could be in the worst of moods and it will put a big smile on your face.

Congratulations to Darby, who is now a two-time winner of the "Annual Weiner Dog Race."

The event was such a big hit, Sports Illustrated did a story about it.

"The Rockford IceHogs won Friday night. In fact, they might have just won the year with their promotional night, "Pucks and Paws."

"While there seemed to be lots of dogs wandering around the arena with owners, one event from the Blackhawks affiliate, in particular, deserves special recognition: a Wiener Dog Race."

"While Darby was crowned the winner, I think we can all agree the IceHogs deserve the real prize for bringing this event to life."

Sports Illustrated posted the video of the race in their story. Since I host the intermission promotions during IceHogs game, I feel like I made it into Sports Illustrated too.

I look forward to the Weiner Dog Race next season.
