As I reported earlier, a Rockford native was going to have his film premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festive.

Now that film has gone on to win an award at the yearly film festival . Bing Liu's film Minding The Gap, about skateboarding, friendship, and life in Rockford, took home the award for U.S Documentary Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking. In the video below you can see Bing Liu accept the award. (It's at the 1:50:51 mark)

And if you take a look at the Minding The Gap Facebook page, you'll see this movie is getting a ton of positive feedback, which includes a write up in the New York Times. It was also called one of the 7 documentaries coming out of Sundance to watch for in 2018 by Vox.

Congrats to Bing Liu and everyone involved with this documentary film about Rockford! By the looks of it, this young man has a bright film career ahead of him!
