According to wifr.com, Roscoe Police are investigating the possible sighting of a panther. At around 11:30 Wednesday morning police respond to the call of a panther in the 5100 block of Rockton Road. The area was checked and no animal or  additional witnesses were found.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has stated that a panther population hasn’t inhabited the stateline in over 100 years. However the occasional cougar has been spotted in the area. It is also reported that  large cats are protected in Illinois unless the animal is a threat to humans or livestock.
