Popular Rockford Restaurant Suddenly Closes Its Doors
The chain's local demise could be related to bankruptcy.
Though some news outlets have not been able to uncover details behind Granite City's sudden closure, a quick Google search reveals GC's parent company filed bankruptcy in late 2019.
St. Cloud-born Granite City Food & Brewery announced it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to allow for a reorganization of its businesses. (USA Today)
One former GC employee told us multiple restaurants closed a few months back but Rockford was under the impression "they were safe." If the past is any indication of what happens when a chain with a Rockford location files bankruptcy, get ready for an empty storefront.
The filing notes that Granite City Food & Brewery Ltd. (GCFB) has already closed seven restaurants, leaving it with 25 namesake brewpubs and four Cadillac Ranch roadhouse-themed casual establishments. (Restaurant Business Online)
Granite City was located at 7144 Harrison Ave, Rockford, IL 61112.
