A long-time downtown Rockford restaurant staple has closed up shop.

According to the Rockford Register Star, "Aakash Patel has renovated the sandwich shop’s (Roly Poly) space at Stewart Square Eatery to focus on Cantina Taco."

Cantina Taco is a Rockford City Market staple and I've had the chance to try the goods at Bite Nite this past summer.

Besides the tastiness of the food, the biggest takeaway from my Cantina Taco experience was a taco order comes with two tortillas. Why? You grab the inside taco and use the other like a mini plate. It's something I've been doing at home for years and I was amused to see it used in a restaurant type setting.

I wonder if that carries over into their restaurant. I guess I'll have to check it out for myself.

Cantina Taco, 117 S. Main Street, offers a variety of reasonably priced tacos, quesadilla, and nachos. Their hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
