If you live in Stephenson County, police are warning all residents of a phone scam going around.

WREX shares that "a woman has been calling people and telling them she's from the [Stephenson County] sheriff's office."

She also "[goes] on to say [they] will be served with papers and if they don't respond" and "the woman tells them they will be arrested."

The number even registers as being from "from the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office" when it shows on Caller ID.

This is not a call from sheriff's office. They are warning residents that this is a scam and to "not respond or give any personal information."
