Put your coat on and go outside!  HURRY!  I'm serious!  Finally a reason to go outside after this "polar vortex," and for the record it is the first time I have ever used this term.  Bundle up and bring the whole family outside as you may see the Northern Lights! You should be able to see them TONIGHT with weather permitting of course.  Make sure to focus your attention low on the horizon.

It's a rare phenomenon here in the Stateline Area as it hasn't been seen in the Midwest since April of 2012.

Now for the "science-y" stuff:

What causes this is that the sun shot out a very strong solar flare on Tuesday, which should be arriving to earth on Thursday.  Aurora Borealis can expand south because said solar flare shakes up Earth's magnetic field.  Who knows?  Maybe our friends in Colorado could even have the chance to see them too!
