Rockford native to have his film shown at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.

Bing Liu moved to Rockford when he was 8 years old. He made DIY skateboarding videos to help hone his skills as a filmmaker. Liu moved to Chicago when he was 19 to freelance as a film grip while attending the University of Illinois at Chicago. Then at 23 he joined the International Cinematographer's Guild, working in the camera department on fiction films and episodic television series. In 2014, Liu began working with Kartemquin Films on his first feature Minding the Gap.

"Three young men bond together to escape volatile families in their Rust Belt hometown.  As they face adult responsibilities, unexpected revelations threaten their decade-long friendship."

Bing Liu's directorial debut will world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival as part of the US Documentary Competition. The film will run January 18-28 as part of the festival in Park City, UT.
