A year later, the medical marijuana situation in Illinois is rolling.

The sale of medical marijuana is Illinois has had a steady increase since it was introduced November 9th 2015. There are still issues that are being worked on, including additional conditions that would fit on the qualifying medical conditions list of 41 already approved. Currently the office of Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is appealing those orders to avoid having the number of patients grow even larger.

After Tuesday night California’s referendum passed to legalize marijuana in the world's sixth-largest economy. It is also now legal in Nevada and Massachusetts according to SLATE

So as of November 2016, in eight states marijuana will be legal for recreational purposes. Also 28 will have some kind of legalization on the books including Illinois.

Illinois state law allows patients to only buy marijuana from licensed dealers.  Marijuana possession in Illinois remains illegal.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration this year kept weed as a Schedule 1 controlled substance, which puts it in the same category as heroin and LSD.
