Are we in store for another 6 weeks of winter?

Accuweather.com is saying that Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow and 6 more weeks of winter are headed our way. Their long-term meteorologists also say our February will be dominated but harsh winter weather. And it's official long-term meteorologists are not my favorite people. I know you're just doing your job, but geeze.  No one wants to hear the word harsh in a winter forecast.

Now usatoday.com is also claiming that the famous weather predicting groundhog will see his shadow. Legend has it that if the weather is sunny he will see his shadow and if it's cloudy that day no shadow will be seen. The weather for Friday morning in Punxsutawney, PA is supposed to be cloudy with some snow showers. We'll just have to wait and see what Phil does. He was wrong last year.

Since 1988, the groundhog has been "right" a total of 14 times and "wrong" 16 times. The groundhog has seen his shadow a total of 103 since 1887 bringing along with another 6 weeks of winter. Since then he's only not seen his shadow with an early spring 18 times.

No word yet as to whether or not Jimmy the Groundhog from Sun Prairie, WI will see his shadow. Since Wisconsin is closer than Pennsylvania, here's hoping he has better news for us. Because I'm not really looking forward to whatever "harsh winter weather" has to offer. Let's just hope Jimmy doesn't bite the mayor this year like he did in 2015. See for yourself in the video below.
