A solar eclipse is a rare astronomical event and a location in Illinois is one of the best places in the United States to experience this special moment.

The Next Solar Eclipse Is Coming Soon To Illinois

If you're lucky, a solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon because it is rare. That's when the moon completely blocks out the sun. The event will be happening on April 8th. The next one won't be until 2045 so you don't want to miss out.

The timeline for the solar eclipse is right around midday sometime between noon and 2:30 pm. It will last around four minutes and nine seconds. Unfortunately, most of the United States will only experience a partial eclipse. There is an area in southern Illinois that will be able to observe the full event.

Best Place To Watch The Solar Eclipse In Illinois

If you want to experience the full solar eclipse then you should start making plans to head on down to Carbondale in southern Illinois on that day. It is one of the only places to see the full blockage of the sun. The SIU campus will be hosting a huge event to celebrate.
