I've killed every plant I have ever owned, I do not want that to happen in my garden.

For my birthday this year my husband made me a beautiful garden. I have raised beds, a brick walk-way around it, a fence and incredible soil. It's the perfect place to start my own garden.

I enlisted the help of my two nephews Alex and Jackson to plant my first garden. This isn't their first time, as they plant one ever year with my brother-in-law for my sister.

We went to the local home improvement store and got many plants that were already started. I knew that is what I would need since it was much later in the season. (I didn't start planting until June 1.)

Here it is 23, days later and I can see plants growing, and growing and growing! I even have little jalapenos peaking their heads out of the pepper plant.

My mother-in-law was over the other day and she took a look at my garden. She said I should thin my carrots. I had no idea what she was talking about so I said, 'oh yeah, I'll do that tomorrow' and googled frantically that evening what she meant.

If you are as clueless as I am, here is what you have to do to your carrots:

I am really hoping for a fantastic season. I've planted tomatoes, a variety of peppers, broccoli, carrots, variety of onions, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, green beans, eggplant and romaine lettuce. All of our favorites.

Are there any tips and tricks that you use in your garden? I'd love to know. Here are a few questions I have.

1. Is it time for me to cut the romaine? Is it to early? I do know that I should cut above the ground level that way I can grow another round of romaine.

2. Are they pole beans or bush beans? I should have kept the package. If they are pole beans, where do I put the pole? Do I tie the stems to them?

3. I have to thin my carrots, but now that I know how... I'll make sure to do that this evening.

4. How much water is too much water? I water my garden everyday, except the days it rains.

5. I put my cucumbers, zucchini and yellow zucchini squash in tomato cages to hopefully have them grow up instead of out. Is that all I have to do? I don't want them to be attacking everything else I have.

Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated! Let me know in the comments below!
