Not only will you get a lot done, but you will also feel good doing it. Yet, the schedule seems impossible.

At least that's what the Huffington Post claims. Huffington Post recently put out an info-graphic diagramming the perfect work day. This included more breaks, 7-8 hours of sleep and time for a power nap. It sure sounds great to me! But is it realistic?

Here is how my normal day goes:

  • 5:30 AM - 6:30 AM: At some point in time stop hitting the snooze button, get my lazy butt out of bed, shower, contemplate washing my hair and putting make up on.
  • 6:30 AM - 6:45 AM: Rush around the house like a mad woman trying to figure out what meals to pack for the day, put on shoes, get gas and hop in the car.
  • 6:45 AM - 8:00 AM: Drive like a maniac to work, which usually results in being 0-19 minutes late. Also, proceed to talk on cellphone (hands free of course) so I don't fall asleep in the car.
  • 8 AM-ish: Research topics to talk about, blog, website, breathe, eat breakfast, breathe, hurry because it's almost showtime.
  • 9 AM - 2 PM: Dazzle the listeners with my impressive radio skills, blog, website, Facebook, Twitter, research, make a video, update concert calendar, remember to breath and eat a snack and lunch at some point.
  • 2 PM - 4 PM: Blog, research for tomorrow, laugh at Brizz's jokes, blog again, make a video, breathe.
  • 4 PM: Get in car and get ready for the long haul home.
  • 6 PM: Arrive home, yell at husband because there was so much traffic and of course it is his fault. (Just kidding) Say hello, he goes off to work, I make dinner.
  • 6:45 PM - 8 PM: Finish dinner, do the dishes, maybe start a load of laundry, clean something and put on pajamas.
  • 8 PM: Start binge watching Friends, but fall asleep on the couch half way through it because I'm already exhausted.
  • 10 PM: Decide if I'm going to wake up and go back to bed on the couch or my actual bed.

Is my day typical? Probably not. I may not have the perfect work day, but I believe I get a huge amount of work done in a day. I'm quite exhausted all the time, possibly because my brain is always running a mile a minute.

I don't have the typical job, or the typical work day. But I feel that I have the PERFECT JOB and the PERFECT WORK DAY. Yet, I see how implementing a few suggestions into my work day may actually make my life plenty more perfect.

Here is what Huffington Post suggests on how to have a perfect work day:

  • 6:30 AM: Wake up! Don't check email.
  • 7 AM: Eat a breakfast high in healthy fats and proteins.
  • 7:30 AM: Exercise before work. Yeah, I suppose that would be a good idea.
  • 9 AM: Set a schedule. Do least desirable tasks first.
  • 9:52 AM - 10:09 AM: Swing by and socialize with a colleague. I love to talk, don't get me wrong, but don't you think that my bosses would get mad if I sat around an chatted with someone else who should be doing their job for 17 minutes?
  • 11:01 AM - 11:18 AM: Have a snack that's high in protein.
  • 12:10 PM: Go outside, lunch with a co-worker or exercise. I do like a walk around the block every day, but I don't get that chance until after two.
  • 2:02 PM - 2:19 PM: Meditate. There is nothing quiet about a radio station. I would have to meditate in the supply closet. Then, my bosses would think I was insane.
  • 3:11 PM - 3:28 PM:Do desk yoga or a mini-workout. I prefer pacing around aimlessly.
  • 4:10 PM - 4:37 PM: Take a power nap. OMG this sounds amazing, but unfortunately I'm driving. So, once you come up with a car that drives it's self, then I'll get on board on this. But wait... you want me to take a nap at work? Yeah... that's not going to fly.
  • 5:29 PM - 5:46 PM: Look at cute cat videos. I don't think that is enough time for all the cuteness.
  • 6 PM: Leave work and go to happy hour to socialize with colleagues. So, you want me to get hammered?
  • 7:30 PM: Eat at least three hours before you go to bed.
  • 8:00 PM: Record wins in a diary.
  • 10 PM: Have a routine that you do at the same time every day. Brush your teeth.
  • 11 PM: Put smartphone away and go to sleep for 7 - 8 full hours.

I feel medium about this. I understand the benefits of having a schedule or routine through the day, but this seems absolutely impossible! I could NOT live like a robot Monday through Friday. I also couldn't live as a slave to my alarm clock. I mean... how else would I know it is 10:09 AM and I have to stop talking to my co-workers.

What do you think of these suggestions? Let me know in the comments below.
