Here’s The Animal That Chicago Garbage Collectors Fear Most

I think you'll be very surprised by which animal scares sanitation workers in Chicago.

I have a friend that is a garbage man in the suburbs. He works hard. Up early every morning and in bad weather. It never stops.

He told me that he could never imagine doing the job in a big city like Chicago. There are so many elements to make working a trash route very difficult.

If mail delivery people fear dogs, what animal frightens garbage collectors?

I think you might be surprised.

Off the top of my head, I would say rats. That isn't it.

According to chicagoreader.com,

"Rats are no longer the biggest issue. The biggest issue nowadays is the squirrels." 

In an interview with Jaime Queroz, who is a commercial garbage man in Chicago, here's what he had to say about it.

"The biggest issue nowadays is the squirrels. The squirrels have become the monsters of the garbage. They're not frightened. I've had 'em jump off my chest, jump off my hands. It's the scariest thing."

Fear the squirrel.
