Fundraising to save Rockford's Trolley Car 36 is nearing its goal.

A few weeks ago I did a story about the future of Trolley Car 36 being in jeopardy.

The Rockford Park District was facing a budget deficit and had to make some cuts. One of them was to stop operating the trolly car that runs along the Sinnissippi bike path during the summer.

The amount to keep it going on a part-time schedule on weekends is $16,000. A group of citizens started a gofundme page to help collect the funds needed.

According to mystateline.com"As of Wednesday morning, they have secured $12,654 of their goal."

It's looking good for Trolley Car 36.

The ultimate goal is $30,000 so it can run full-time.

This is great news for our community.
