Because of budget cuts by the Rockford Park District, the Forest City Queen won't be operating on the Rock River this summer. Unless a new GoFundMe page comes to the rescue.

The page, GoFundMe.com/Forestcityqueen, was added on March 1st, with a fundraising goal of $22,000.

Unfortunately, at this writing on March 5th, they're just a bit short. As of 9:45am today, they've got pledges totaling $210.

So, what's the story? From their GoFundMe page:

We are a group of citizens rallying around our Rockford Park District! As you have likely heard, the Rockford Park District faced another $1 million deficit this year and had to make some tough operational decisions. Our beloved Park District has not increased taxes in several years even though revenue has declined, and as a result is faced with the decision to reduce certain services and attractions. We need your help to keep one of these landmark attractions operational! At this point, the Forest City Queen riverboat is not going to operate in 2018 unless we can raise enough funds. Our fundraising goal is $22,000 to make the much needed repairs and to cover operational costs for a modified summer season. This would continue to give our community the chance to take a unique and affordable boat trip cruising along the river enjoying the scenic riverfront during the summer of 2018. Please donate to keep the Queen in the river!

Having experienced the fun of a river cruise aboard the Forest City Queen, I see where they're coming from.
