Downtown Rockford is popping, and quickly becoming THE spot foodies are flocking to in the Stateline.

If you love trying food from other cultures, you are going to LOVE this...Rockford is getting its first Peruvian restaurant, and the owner is hoping to have the doors open by this December.

According to WREX, LimaMar is moving into the space once occupied by CD Source at 221 East State Street. The owner, Ross Terry, told WREX that "he hopes to serve as an ambassador of the country (Peru) to Rockford".

So what exactly is Peruvian food? According to Wikipedia;

Peruvian cuisine reflects local practices and ingredients—including influences from the indigenous population including the Inca and cuisines brought in with immigrants from Europe and West Africa.

The four traditional staples of Peruvian cuisine are cornpotatoes and other tubersAmaranthaceaes (quinoakañiwa and kiwicha) and legumes (beans and lupins). Staples brought by the Spanish include ricewheat and meats (beef, pork and chicken).

Sounds good...and super spicy!

LimaMar is currently looking to hire two chefs and a mixologist. For more information check out LimaMar on Facebook.
