I promise you, when the police come knocking... it's a good thing.

Last night when my husband and I were deciding what to do for dinner, we heard an unexpected knock on the door.

He and I looked at each other thinking, what in the world? We aren't expecting anyone? I went to the door, and it was of course my suspicion. A young college kid going door to door selling pest control. I tried to politely decline the services he was offering until I found out his name was Chandler and I screamed "Chandler BING!" just like the television show Friends.

He's obviously heard that before. I watched him roll his eyes and leave. Oops. Sorry Chandler.

I was relived when it was just a college kid selling things door to door, but I have a feeling that if I opened the door and a police officer was there I would feel differently.

My first thought would be is something wrong? If my husband wasn't home, we work opposite schedules, I would be even more concerned that something has happened to him. I would then think did something happen to my neighbors? Zombie apocalypse? My mind would rush to the most obscure conclusions of all time.

I'm here to tell you that when a Rockford Police Officer comes knocking at your front door, do not be alarmed.

WIFR reports that the Rockford Police Department are approaching crime in a completely different way.

Rockford Police and building inspectors are canvassing the east side for the Neighborhood Improvement Reconnaissance. This is in the hopes that neighborhood nuisances and crime can be eradicated in order to make residents feel more safe.

In the course of three hours, over 200 homes were already greeted by the officers. Three sweeps have been conducted in the past three months and many more are scheduled for different parts of the city.

So don't be alarmed, good citizen, when you see the police come knocking on your door. It is for the common good.
