I don't know if it was to show what happens if you do poorly in school or not, but I was asked to help welcome students to Belvidere High School today for their first day of school.

The first day of school was always a one-of-a-kind day. The excitement of seeing what classes you had with friends, the smell of new paint in the hallways and eyeing up which teachers would be a breeze that year.

I spent the morning chatting with students as they waited for the doors to open. I met aspiring actors, musicians, doctors and a young lady who has her sights set on becoming an airplane pilot. I was encouraged by the amount of classic rock fans. I spoke with several kids about the magic of Zeppelin, Black Sabbath's best albums and if anyone today can hold a candle to Duane Allman's slide guitar work (nobody can).

Special thanks to Holly from Rosecrance who made it out to help me welcome the classes of 2015 - 2018, and their fearless leader, Principal Zickert. Go Bucs!
