The Chicago Blackhawks fired Rockford IceHogs head coach, Ted Dent.

According to IceHogs.com,

"The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the team has relieved Ted Dent, Head Coach of the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, of his duties."

After the Chicago Blackhawks were swept out of the first round of the playoffs by the Nashville Predators, General Manager, Stan Bowman, said there would be some major changes within the organization.

The shake up started yesterday with the firing of Blackhawks assistant coach, Mike Kitchen.

Looks like Mr. Bowman isn't messing around. I'm sure there are more changes coming. Not only with coaching, but also with players.

It will be an interesting off season for the team.

I got to know Ted Dent during his time in Rockford. He's a really nice guy. I thought he did a great job getting talent ready for the NHL level. He was a good person to know.

Since the Hawks consider Rockford a developmental team, that made it difficult to win a championship. Players doing well get called up or traded to help the team.

The IceHogs had a rough season, but I don't think they were set-up for success. The Blackhawks were so salary cap strapped, several prospects that would normally be in Rockford were in Chicago instead. Their roster had to be filled out with many AHL journeymen.

I hope the Chicago Blackhawks aren't pressing the panic button. Going into the season, what were the expectations? They had a handful for rookies. It was sort of a rebuilding year. I thought they would do well, but not contend for the championship.

I know with the core team they should do well each season, but I don't think anyone expected them to be favored for the cup. I think they outplayed their ability during the season. Fans got really excited, so it became a disappointing season.

I wish Ted Dent the best. I know he will land on his feet. Thank you for all the memories.
