If you're going to be out partying, please make sure to be careful when drinking.

Hopefully by now, everybody knows it's very dangerous and illegal to drink in drive. Plus, it's very expensive.

Nowadays, there are plenty of other ways to get home after a night of partying without drinking and driving like designated driver programs, Uber, taxi, limo, bus, or even the old fashion way, just walk home.

If you do decide to walk, please make sure you are sober enough to do it. I know what you are thinking, but I'm doing the right thing. I had a few too many and I'm not driving. It's not like I'm being drunk and disorderly.

Over the weekend, I saw this post on Rockford Scanner.

At 12:13 am, police were sent to the corner of Blackhawk and Rockton for a drunk elderly lady wondering in the roadway. Police currently en route.

That person could possibly be arrested for a P.U.I. Pedestrian Under The Influence.

Did you even know that existed?

(625 ILCS 5/11-1010) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-1010)
Sec. 11-1010. Pedestrians under influence of alcohol or drugs. A pedestrian who is under the influence of alcohol or any drug to a degree which renders himself a hazard shall not walk or be upon a highway except on a sidewalk.
(Source: P.A. 79-857.)

I found out the hard way.

When I was in college, I was out late at a party. I decided to do the right thing and not drive. It wasn't too far to my place, so I walked home. The neighborhood I lived in didn't have any sidewalks, so I was walking in the road. A cop saw me, so he pulled me over. He gave me a P.U.I. ticket. I asked him for a ride home and he refused. I walked to rest of the way.

The next day I went to student legal services at Illinois State University. I explained to them what happened. They said, the officer let you break the law again. You should use that info. I went to court. I told the judge what happened. The charges were dropped.

Luckily, I didn't get charged. I would have been on court supervision and had to pay a fine, which is never good.

So please remember if you have been drinking, don't drive and be very careful walking.
