If you didn't know, after the latest in Apple iOS software updates, 'Wi-Fi Assist' showed up in your Settings tab on your phone.

I wasn't sure what it was, so I didn't turn it off right away. Then, when I got my cellular bill, I couldn't believe how much I was charged in data overages.

Wi-Fi Assist automatically switches the Internet connection from Wi-Fi to data when the signal is not strong. This is great for when you are watching videos on the go, but it can wreck havoc on your cellular bill.

According to AppleInsider, Apple is being sued. The lawsuit claims overuse charges exceed $5 million. The lawsuit also claims Apple mislead their customers because the setting is enabled by default and is in violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law.

Will we see any benefits to this? Probably not, but to save some money on overages, make sure to turn off Wi-Fi Assist. The directions on how to do so can be found here.
