With summer fun and work come a lot of responsibility. The heat can really take it's toll on you if you are out in it for an hour or six hours.

Years ago when Lollapalooza came to Pecatonica, I suffered really bad sunburn and heat stroke. I was not prepared, and was in the 90+ degree heat all day. I still remember coming home, filling up the bath tub with cold water and jumping in. I felt nothing, fun huh?

Stay away from flip-flops all summer long - I've been known to wear these in the colder months. O.K. I did once, and I was in a hurry to get somewhere.

  • Hydrate - Water, sports drinks.
  • Don't pee in the pool - The health of your friends depend on it.
  • Precautions in the heat - Frequent breaks, resting.
  • High Calorie Foods - If you are going to eat big, be smart. The ice cream and rich foods will take a toll on you quick.
  • Immune System Eats - Strawberries, Tomatoes, anything citrus
  • Burgers - Yes grill it up people!
  • Pre-Plan Meals - Less stress, eat smart, safe summer $$$
